Senior Mechanical Engineer – Mechanisms

About the role

Radiant is developing portable nuclear micro‑reactors and seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of critical mechanisms such as control‑blade actuators and air‑jacket valves. You will work on the Kaleidos 1‑MW reactor, delivering reliable, high‑performance hardware that meets stringent safety and durability requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Own the design, analysis, and integration of key mechanisms that control reactivity and safety functions.
• Conduct trade studies, material selection, and detailed thermomechanical and kinematic analyses using hand calculations and finite‑element tools.
• Develop manufacturing and assembly instructions, test plans, and manage Bill‑of‑Materials (BOM) creation.
• Identify and qualify suppliers, oversee sub‑assembly production schedules, and perform risk analyses (FMEA).
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, providing technical feedback and ensuring requirements are met.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.
• 4+ years of experience designing mechanical mechanisms.
• 4+ years of experience performing stress analysis with hand calculations and finite‑element software.
• Proven ability to manage complex sub‑assembly projects from concept through testing.

Required skills

• Finite‑element analysis tools: Abaqus, Ansys, FEMAP (or similar).
• CAD modeling: Siemens NX or comparable platform.
• Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Pneumatic system design.
• Integration of electromechanical components such as motors and encoders.
