Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Advanced Concepts

About the role

BETA Technologies is seeking a senior mechanical design engineer to lead the architecture and design of narrow‑body high‑lift devices for electric aircraft. The role will own the mechanical development of flaps, slats, and related mechanisms from concept through preliminary sizing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architecture and design trades for high‑lift devices, including tracks, hinges, linkages, drive systems, actuation, and installation.
• Develop kinematic models, packaging studies, mechanism layouts, load paths, and three‑dimensional CAD models.
• Translate aerodynamic, load, control‑system, safety, maintainability and manufacturing requirements into mechanical design specifications.
• Own mechanical integration across wing, movable surfaces, actuation, hydraulics/electromechanical systems, flight controls and test provisions.
• Identify failure modes, single‑point vulnerabilities, jamming risks, tolerance sensitivities and inspection/maintenance access early in design.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of aerospace mechanical or mechanism design experience.
• Must be a US Person.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CATIA, 3DEXPERIENCE or comparable CAD/product‑definition tools.
• Experience with kinematics, bearings, joints, fasteners, tolerances and mechanical load paths.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex mechanical hardware from concept through build and test.
