Senior Manager, Sponsored Programs

About the role

The Senior Manager, Sponsored Programs supports the research mission of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the Executive Dean for Research office. The role requires extensive federal grant administration experience with sponsors such as NIH, DOD and NSF, and focuses on increasing sponsored funding and optimizing existing research dollars.

Key responsibilities

• Identify potential donors or funding sources and develop outreach strategies.
• Develop, coordinate and oversee grant applications and proposals.
• Train, mentor and supervise sponsored‑programs staff and prepare performance reports.
• Negotiate contractual provisions with partners and ensure compliance with university and federal standards.
• Maintain internal controls, monitor compliance and act as the primary point of contact for funding issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in federal grant administration.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
• Proficiency with University of Miami systems: IBIS, Workday, Velos and eRA Commons.
• Experience managing grants from NIH, DOD, NSF and other federal sponsors.
