Senior Manager of Technical Design

About the role

Short Story is seeking a Senior Manager of Technical Design to lead its growing technical design team focused on petite women’s fashion. The role combines data‑driven insights, craft, and talent to set standards, refine fit and quality metrics, and streamline product creation processes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Technical Design team, fostering expertise in petite fit.
• Establish and maintain industry‑leading fit and quality processes.
• Educate, coach, and evaluate team members to enhance skills and knowledge.
• Drive innovation by implementing best‑in‑class tools, resources, and scalable workflows.
• Partner with vendors and internal teams to ensure products meet fit goals, quality standards, and production timelines.
• Leverage internal and external data to inform technical decisions and improve product creation.

Required profile

• 12+ years in technical design and product development for women’s apparel, with specific experience in petite sizing.
• 8+ years of management experience, leading teams through change and growth.
• Strong analytical mindset with aptitude for data, metrics, reporting, and strategic problem‑solving.
• Proven ability to build talent pipelines, communicate clearly, and manage vendor relationships.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
