Senior Maintenance Mechanic – Facility Operations

About the role

The University of Miami is seeking a Senior Maintenance Mechanic to lead a wide range of facility maintenance activities across campus. This full‑time position ensures that all building systems operate safely and efficiently while supporting a team of technical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and supervise general maintenance tasks including plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical, HVAC, housekeeping, and landscape/grounds work.
• Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues.
• Develop and execute preventive maintenance and repair programs.
• Inspect water, life‑safety, and fire protection systems; respond to emergency calls.
• Direct and mentor less‑experienced maintenance staff.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
• Respond to service requests, hot calls, cold calls, and odor complaints.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications as required by the department.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands‑on maintenance experience in a facility setting.
• Strong knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
• Ability to learn new procedures and adapt to changing priorities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
