Senior Intelligence Team Lead

About the role

The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) at the University of Maryland seeks a Senior Intelligence Team Lead to manage interdisciplinary research on critical and emerging technologies that impact national and economic security.

Key responsibilities

• Manage teams conducting interdisciplinary research at the intersection of people, policy, and technology.
• Guide assessments of technology capabilities, limitations, and trajectories, including second- and third-order impacts.
• Analyze socio‑technical adoption, policy, and governance influences on technology use.
• Run analytic programs evaluating technology ecosystems, supply chains, and strategic risk.
• Develop and mentor junior researchers, ensuring they become self‑sufficient all‑source analysts.

Required profile

• Prior experience as an intelligence analyst for a U.S. Government all‑source agency.
• Experience leading analytic teams (Branch Chief, Senior Intelligence Analyst, or Senior Analytic Service).
• Ph.D. or at least 5 years of full‑time experience as a senior faculty specialist.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (TS/SCI preferred).
• Proven record of managing and directing academic or research programs.

Required skills

• Expertise in IC writing tradecraft and editing intelligence products for senior policymakers.
• Strong oral and written communication for briefing government stakeholders.
• Experience leading engagements with U.S. government sponsors and customers.

What we offer

• Salary range $160,000 – $220,000 per year.
• Five‑year contract with potential for renewal.
