Senior General Ledger Accountant

About the role

Topstep is looking for a Senior General Ledger Accountant to own key accounting areas such as accrued expenses, AP aging, contractor payments, fixed assets, and available‑for‑sale securities. The role plays a hands‑on part in the monthly close, supports annual financial statement schedules, and supervises a GL Accountant.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accrual workbooks, prepare and post monthly accrual and reversal entries, and reconcile accrued expense accounts.
• Own the monthly AP aging review, ensure report ties to the trial balance, and resolve aged or unusual items.
• Process and code Deel contractor invoices, maintain contractor accrual workbooks, and improve tracking/reconciliation files.
• Manage the fixed‑asset process for capitalized software, maintain depreciation/amortization schedules, and prepare related journal entries.
• Account for available‑for‑sale securities, perform monthly reconciliations, record mark‑to‑market adjustments, and monitor impairment considerations.
• Support preparation of annual AFS schedules and provide audit assistance for owned areas.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and sound accounting judgment.
• Ability to work independently across multiple accounting areas.
• Experience supervising junior accounting staff and reviewing their work.
• Flexibility to take on additional accounting areas or ad‑hoc projects as the finance team evolves.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Deel platform for contractor payments.
• Knowledge of ASC 320/321 accounting standards for available‑for‑sale securities.
