Senior Engineer, Machine Learning Research and Development

About the role

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead applied AI/ML initiatives that accelerate biopharmaceutical development. You will partner with cross‑functional teams to translate complex data into actionable models that improve decision‑making across the CMC space.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a strategic roadmap and capabilities for applied AI/ML in biopharmaceutical development.
• Build and deliver novel machine‑learning models that enable project teams to make data‑driven decisions.
• Collaborate with business functions and IT to create data flows and data blocks supporting modeling efforts.
• Advise project teams on experimental design, data transformation, and knowledge extraction.
• Ensure model outputs meet project needs and generate intellectual property that enhances the company’s development pipeline.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Science, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Data Science, AI/ML or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in senior‑level machine‑learning research and development.
• Experience with advanced therapies, biopharmaceutical processes, and strategic modeling programs.
• Proven ability to apply machine‑learning techniques to support biopharmaceutical industry challenges.
• Familiarity with both agile and waterfall software development life cycles.

Required skills

• Programming languages.NET, Java, Perl, C++, MATLAB, R, Julia, Python.
• Data engineering: wrangling high‑dimensional big data from data warehouses.
• Cloud platforms: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Tools: JIRA, Git, Scrum, Confluence.
• Knowledge of Large Language Models (LLM) and full‑stack development.
