Senior Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Engineer

About the role

Amentum is seeking an engineer to perform EMP-related engineering work on naval ship architectures and systems. The role involves research, analysis, testing and reporting, with a sign-on bonus of up to $10,000 for eligible and qualified candidates.

Key responsibilities

• Perform EMP research, analysis, requirements definition and development, assessments, test and evaluation
• Assess the impact of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) / EMP on shipboard configurations and systems, including HEMP effects, and carry out EMP risk and mission analyses
• Write technical reports meeting sponsor requirements
• Plan and take part in MIL-STD 461 testing at the Naval Ordnance Transient Electromagnetic Simulator (NOTES) facility
• Plan and take part in EMP testing for Low Level Continuous Wave (LLCW) demonstrations, acquire and analyse data, and refine SOPs

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering, scientific or technical discipline
• 12 years of knowledge and expertise in one or more of: Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or Naval Architecture engineering
• 7 years of experience in EMP, E3, EMI, EMC, E3 computation and modeling
• Active Secret or Top Secret US government clearance (US citizenship required to maintain it)

Desired qualifications

• Experience in EMP engineering, research, test and evaluation
• Experience developing and validating EM survivability requirements for electrical/electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures
• Testing experience at EMC/EMP facilities such as mode-stirred chambers and horizontally and vertically polarized wave simulators
• Ability to collect test data, perform risk-to-mission and dependency analysis, and write technical reports
