Senior Director of Construction

About the role

The Senior Director of Construction leads multiple capital, maintenance and infrastructure projects for the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Engineering and Capital Projects & Planning, this senior leader coordinates multidisciplinary teams, manages scope, schedule and budget, and ensures safe, efficient delivery across several sites.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee design activities with engineers, architects, consultants and vendors.
• Align design management with project scope, budget, schedule and standards.
• Review construction documents, logistics plans, bid packages, RFPs, RFIs, payment requisitions and change orders.
• Coordinate construction activities across multiple sites, ensuring safety, minimal operational impact and regulatory compliance.
• Manage contract budgets and schedules, negotiate change‑order pricing and prepare funding reports.
• Communicate project goals, expectations and deliverables to teams.
• Develop project recommendations, sequencing strategies, scopes of work and RFPs for repair and rehabilitation projects.
• Identify and mitigate project risks and issues.
• Maintain construction safety policies in line with OSHA and RIOC standards.
• Prepare accurate project documentation, reports and presentations.

Required profile

• Extensive experience overseeing large‑scale construction, capital and infrastructure projects.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary design and construction teams.
• Strong track record in budget and schedule management, contract negotiation and risk mitigation.
• Deep knowledge of construction safety regulations (OSHA) and permitting processes.
• Excellent communication skills for internal and external stakeholder engagement.
