Senior Design Engineer – Actuators

About the role

Rhoda AI is developing next‑generation generalist intelligent robots. As a Senior Design Engineer you will own the mechanical design of high‑performance actuators—including motors, gear trains, and housings—from concept through mass production.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver precision electromechanical components, ensuring performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
• Create high‑fidelity 3D CAD models and 2D drawings with comprehensive GD&T and datum strategies.
• Perform dimensional stack‑up analysis and define critical tolerances for interfaces such as gear meshes and bearing fits.
• Coordinate with suppliers: run RFQs, conduct feasibility reviews, and troubleshoot manufacturing issues.
• Define test plans with modeling and test engineers, support characterization, and iterate designs based on test data.
• Integrate mechanical designs with electronics, controls, and systems engineering teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 5+ years of mechanical design experience with at least one full‑cycle product launch of precision electromechanical hardware.
• Strong fundamentals in bearing selection, gear sizing, shaft design, fastener engineering, and rotating assemblies.
• Owner mindset with excellent organizational skills and ability to drive parts through suppliers under tight timelines.

Required skills

• Advanced CAD (CATIA preferred) and GD&T expertise.
• Tolerance stack‑up analysis and DfM knowledge.
• Interpretation of FEA (structural, modal, thermal) and hand‑calculation judgment.
• Supplier coordination, RFQ management, and manufacturing issue resolution.
• Experience with precision gear systems, PMSM/BLDC motor mechanical design, and high‑cycle actuator applications.
