Senior Data Engineer
sailpoint
Job description
About the role
SailPoint builds the Next Gen Identity Data Platform, a lakehouse and streaming foundation for its Identity Security Cloud, Identity Graph and related products. As a Senior Data Engineer you will design, build and operate batch and streaming pipelines, warehouse and lakehouse models and the data services they depend on. This is a strong individual contributor role: you own features end to end, raise the engineering bar for your team and mentor junior engineers.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and operate scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data services on a managed lakehouse, owning them from requirements through production support.
- Build robust warehouse and lakehouse models supporting product features, analytics and ML, and keep graph-serving models responsive as data grows.
- Contribute to data architecture discussions, write and review design documents, and implement data quality, governance, lineage and observability standards.
- Partner with product, infrastructure, security, analytics teams and data scientists to ship practical solutions.
- Review peers' code, mentor junior engineers, and use AI-assisted development while keeping code review, security and governance standards.
- Take part in the on-call rotation and turn incident learnings into lasting fixes.
Required profile
- 5+ years of professional experience building production software, with substantial time in data engineering.
- 2+ years owning pipelines, datasets or data services in production.
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Comfortable working independently and on time, even in unfamiliar parts of the codebase.
Required skills
- Strong hands-on SQL, data modeling and query optimization, ideally on Snowflake or a comparable cloud warehouse.
- Strong hands-on dbt and Airflow, or close equivalents.
- Proficiency in Python, Java or Scala.
- Distributed batch and streaming processing, with production experience on Kafka, Flink, Spark or Cassandra.
- Cloud-native systems on AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Data governance, security and compliance knowledge.
Preferred: background building data platforms at scale (Apache Iceberg), graph-oriented data systems, SLOs and observability (Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog), Kubernetes, Terraform, OpenSearch, MLOps, and IAM/IGA exposure.
What we offer
- Estimated base salary for US-based employees of $108,600 - $183,018, with benefits varying by location and employment type.
- Health, dental and vision insurance, disability and life coverage, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) with company matching, 8 paid holidays, sick leave and paid parental leave.
- Potential eligibility for the SailPoint Corporate Bonus Plan, role-specific commission and equity participation.
