Senior Counsel, Regulatory & Product

About the role

Faire, a technology wholesale platform connecting independent retailers worldwide, is hiring a Senior Counsel, Regulatory & Product in San Francisco. The role advises the teams building the marketplace on regulatory developments and reports to the Deputy General Counsel. It suits someone who enjoys both shaping the law and advising on it.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with engineering, product, data and design teams to give practical legal guidance on product development and go-to-market strategy
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments across local, state and federal jurisdictions and assess their implications for Faire and its users
• Develop Faire's positions on potential legislation and regulation with stakeholders across the business
• Turn emerging legal and regulatory obligations into practical product and operational requirements
• Manage relationships with trade associations, coalitions and external consultants for cohesive advocacy
• Support engagement and advocacy with regulators, legislators and their staff

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and an active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
• 5+ years of relevant experience at a law firm, in-house, in government or at a judicial clerkship
• Exposure to how law and policy are made, e.g. as a legislative aide, in an agency or through regulatory advocacy
• Willingness to travel
• Experience counseling product teams and/or online marketplaces is a plus

Required skills

• Excellent communication skills, able to give risk-calibrated, solution-focused advice to product and engineering teams
• Active experimentation with AI in legal work
