Senior C++ Engineer - Foundations (Hivemind SDK)

About the role

Shield AI, a venture-backed defense-tech company, is looking for a Senior Engineer to help design and develop the middleware framework behind its autonomy systems. You will join the Hivemind Foundations team and build the high-performance, reliable, robust foundational layer of the Hivemind SDK, EdgeOS, which enables autonomous systems to run on platforms in very demanding environments.

Key responsibilities

• Own the architecture and implementation of features critical to EdgeOS and EdgeOS RT middleware.
• Develop runtime services and abstractions that work across Linux, real-time operating systems and resource-constrained platforms.
• Design and develop tooling to evaluate, observe and debug autonomous systems.
• Contribute to and extend EdgeOS Language, the interface definition language used by autonomous systems.
• Work with autonomy, systems, simulation and test engineers from initial design through integration.
• Raise the engineering bar through design and code reviews, technical guidance, documentation and mentorship.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Typically 7 years of related experience with a bachelor's, 6 with a master's, 4 with a PhD, or equivalent experience.

Required skills

• Strong C++11 or newer in a production environment.
• Multithreaded systems design, development and debugging.
• Software for real-time operating systems and embedded platforms.
• Systems programming: concurrency, memory management, resource constraints and performance optimization.
• Automated testing and technical documentation.

Preferred: C++17+, MISRA C++ or similar standards, DO-178C, ROS2, interface definition languages, CMake and Nix, and profiling/debugging across hardware and OS environments.
