Senior Bridge & Tunnel Engineer - Rail Transit

About the role

Parsons is seeking a Senior/Principal Structural or Geotechnical Engineer with extensive experience in tunneling and underground design and construction for rail and transit projects. The role is based in the Baltimore office and will support transportation clients such as Amtrak.

Key responsibilities

• Perform complex structural and geo‑structural design tasks for tunnels, shafts, foundations, retaining structures and excavation support systems.
• Conduct 2D and 3D analyses, soil‑structure interaction studies, and prepare design calculations and engineering reports.
• Plan and oversee geotechnical investigations, produce data and baseline reports, and assess construction impacts.
• Develop detailed drawings using Microstation and AutoCAD and review submittals from contractors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with at least 8 years of relevant experience; Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
• Master’s degree in Structural or Geotechnical Engineering is desirable.
• Experience with rail and transit infrastructure projects.

Required skills

• Proficiency in finite element analysis software such as Plaxis, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000.
• Strong working knowledge of Microstation, AutoCAD, and MS Office.
• Familiarity with design codes (ACI, ASCE, AISC, ASTM, AWWA).
