Senior AI Engineer (TS/SCI Poly)

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Senior AI Engineer with a proven track record in software engineering and a deep understanding of AI/ML techniques to support its new AI and Emerging Technologies (AI&ET) mission. The engineer works closely with mission stakeholders to capture requirements, help with structured planning and improve the certification process by introducing AI/ML tooling, and uses AI/ML to build tools such as fine-tuned Large Language Models (LLMs) that enhance vulnerability identification and mitigation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain LLM orchestration frameworks that coordinate static analyzers, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems and automated testing pipelines.
• Develop and optimize data preprocessing pipelines that ingest, clean, transform and vectorize product documentation, source code and test results for LLM consumption.
• Design and implement database solutions supporting RAG architectures, artifact storage, audit trails and metadata management.
• Work with systems engineers to architect and deploy networked AI tools in secure enclaves, and profile, optimize and scale mission systems.
• Support security assessments and authority to operate (ATO) processes.

Required profile

• Security clearance: TS/SCI Poly.
• Experience: doctoral degree plus 4 years, master's plus 6 years, bachelor's plus 8 years, associate's plus 10 years, or high school/GED plus 12 years of relevant experience.
• Preferred: familiarity with Rust, Claude Code, Codex and CI/CD.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python, LLM integration and data engineering.
• Static analyzers, RAG frameworks, and relational and vector databases.
• Familiarity with Agile, Git, Jira and Confluence.
