Senior Accountant - Real Estate (Remote, EST)
Howard · Montevideo
Job description
About the role
Howard Financial, a tech-forward outsourced accounting and finance firm founded in 2023, is looking for a Senior Accountant with hands-on real estate accounting experience to own the books for a portfolio of Development & Real Estate clients. The role runs month-end close across multiple entities, keeps project and property financials clean, and acts as the main accounting contact for clients. It is fully remote, within the EST time zone.
Key responsibilities
- Own the full month-end and year-end close for multiple real estate entities (LLCs, partnerships, property-level and holding entities).
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and bank, credit card and intercompany reconciliations.
- Track development projects: construction-in-progress (CIP), cost capitalization, job costing and placing assets in service.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation, and track loans, draws, interest and debt covenants.
- Account for rental revenue, tenant receivables, security deposits and CAM reconciliations where applicable.
- Prepare financial statements and reporting packages: balance sheet, P&L, cash flow, budget vs. actual and project cost reports.
- Support investor and partner reporting, capital contributions and distributions.
- Coordinate with external CPAs on audits, tax filings and 1099s.
- Review the work of junior accountants and bookkeepers and help improve close processes and documentation.
- Communicate directly with clients in English, answering questions and explaining the numbers clearly.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Contador Publico or equivalent).
- 4+ years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in real estate (development, property management or investment entities).
- Solid knowledge of US GAAP and full-cycle accounting, from transactions to financial statements.
- Experience with multi-entity books, intercompany activity and consolidations.
- Hands-on experience with CIP, cost capitalization, fixed assets and debt accounting.
- Advanced English (C1 or higher), written and spoken, for daily client communication.
- Nice to have: experience at an outsourced accounting firm or a US CPA firm serving real estate clients, familiarity with ASC 842 lease accounting and investor waterfalls, exposure to construction draw requests, lender reporting or fund accounting, and CPA or equivalent certification.
Required skills
- QuickBooks Online and/or a real estate platform such as Yardi, AppFolio, MRI or Sage Intacct.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills (lookups, pivot tables, reconciliation workbooks).
What we offer
- 100% remote work with a collaborative, bilingual team.
- Direct exposure to US real estate developers and investors.
- A modern accounting stack and a culture that values automation and continuous improvement.
- Room to grow toward Controller roles as Howard expands.
- Competitive compensation in USD.
