Roller Operator – Heavy Construction

About the role

Granite Construction is seeking a Roller Operator to drive heavy road rollers for compacting earth fills, subgrades, flexible base, and bituminous surfaces on highways, streets, and runways. The position involves operating the machine safely and efficiently to meet grade specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Control the roller by moving levers, depressing pedals, turning handwheels, and adjusting throttle.
• Make overlapping passes to achieve uniform compaction.
• Determine speed and direction based on material compressibility and temperature.
• Operate hand rollers, hand tamp, and guide portable power rollers in areas the road roller cannot reach.
• Perform designated tasks as Road‑Roller Operator, Hot‑Mix, Subgrade‑Roller Operator, Diesel‑Roller Operator, or Gas‑Roller Operator.

Required profile

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Proper certification for roller operation.
• Training and experience operating heavy rolling equipment.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and follow safety procedures.
• Physical capability to stoop, bend, lift up to 50 lb and frequently handle objects up to 25 lb.
