General Superintendent – Electrical Substation Construction

About the role

The General Superintendent leads all on‑site activities for electrical substation projects, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence. This senior position coordinates multiple crews and subcontractors while serving as the primary authority for construction sequencing and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise civil, structural, and electrical installation work on substations.
• Plan daily and weekly schedules, allocating manpower, equipment, and materials.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, planners, and subcontractors to meet milestones.
• Conduct daily briefings and toolbox talks to communicate work plans and hazards.
• Review drawings, specifications, and technical documents for accurate execution.
• Verify installation of transformers, breakers, switches, protection/control wiring, and steel structures.
• Maintain detailed documentation, including inspections, redlines, and as‑built records.
• Track production progress and provide daily updates to project management.
• Support procurement by forecasting material needs.
• Manage subcontractor performance and contract compliance.
• Mentor, train, and evaluate field staff and crew leaders.
• Approve timesheets and ensure proper workforce utilization.

Required profile

• 4–8 years of experience in substation construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of transmission and distribution systems and related electrical equipment.
• Proven ability to plan work sequences, allocate resources, and coordinate multiple trades.
• Ability to read safety signs, operating instructions, and construction specifications in English.
• Strong written communication skills for clear daily reporting.
