Rio Grande Bosque Manager

About the role

The Rio Grande Bosque Manager leads the Open Space Division's Bosque Program, overseeing restoration projects, recreation amenities, and daily operations. Reporting to the Parks and Recreation Department, the manager ensures the Bosque’s ecological health and visitor services are maintained to high standards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and manage all activities related to the Rio Grande Bosque, including construction, maintenance, and restoration.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate staff; assign work, review performance, and handle disciplinary actions.
• Serve as liaison with federal, state, and local partners, including law enforcement and emergency services.
• Administer contracts, ensure compliance, and coordinate implementation.
• Participate in budgeting, forecast staffing and equipment needs, monitor expenditures, and prepare cost estimates for facilities.
• Oversee strategic planning for hazardous fuels reduction, restoration projects, and recreation amenities.
• Monitor operational efficiency, recommend service levels, and manage inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Develop public relations initiatives, respond to citizen inquiries, and resolve sensitive issues.

Required profile

• Proven experience in land or natural resource management, preferably within a parks or open‑space context.
• Strong supervisory and team‑leadership abilities.
• Experience coordinating with multiple government agencies and external partners.
• Demonstrated budgeting and financial management skills.
• Ability to develop and implement strategic plans for ecological restoration and public use.
