Retirement Operations Specialist – Benefit Claims

About the role

The Teachers Retirement System of Georgia is seeking a Retirement Operations Specialist to manage benefit‑claims processing for its members. Working under the unit manager, you will ensure accurate benefit calculations, compliance with regulations, and high‑quality service for retirees, beneficiaries, and employers.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, submit and process routine requests related to member benefit records and documents.
• Determine eligibility, calculate benefits and payments, and ensure compliance with plan provisions and state/federal regulations.
• Analyze accounts for reconciliation, research overpayments, and process account maintenance updates.
• Manage workflow queues, multiple reports and spreadsheets, and process stop‑payment, ACH deletions, reversals, and 1099R corrections.
• Deactivate pay status, remove retirees from payroll, and handle deceased retiree account deactivations.
• Prepare health‑insurance memos, bank reclamation requests, and provide accurate information to retirees, employers and external customers.
• Conduct face‑to‑face consultations and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Experience in benefit‑claims or retirement‑operations processing.
• Knowledge of state and federal retirement regulations and plan provisions.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple reports and spreadsheets.
• Excellent customer‑service orientation and ability to work overtime when needed.
