Research Farm Assistant (Entry Level)

About the role

This entry‑level position supports research activities on LSU’s Northeast and Macon Ridge research stations. You will provide routine care for livestock and experimental crops, maintain equipment, and assist with basic data collection in a scientific farming environment.

Key responsibilities

• Feed, breed, medicate, and milk livestock; monitor animal health and security.
• Operate, clean, and perform simple adjustments on tractors and other farm equipment.
• Prepare land, plant, fertilize, irrigate, apply chemicals, and harvest experimental crops.
• Mix and sterilize soil, germinate and transplant seeds, assist with pollination, and label seed collections.
• Maintain basic records of feed consumption, production yields, and animal mortality.
• Perform related tasks in forestry, aquaculture, and agricultural engineering as assigned.

Required profile

• Entry‑level candidate with no prior experience required.
• Ability to follow written instructions and work safely with animals and equipment.
• Willingness to learn agricultural research practices.
