Reporter – Florida Phoenix

About the role

The Florida Phoenix, an award‑winning nonpartisan newsroom, is seeking a dedicated reporter to deliver hard‑hitting coverage of state government, politics and policy. Based in Tallahassee, you will connect state decisions to Floridians’ everyday lives, with a focus on immigration and statewide elections.

Key responsibilities

• Produce daily and enterprise stories covering the Legislature, state agencies and elections.
• Generate story ideas, pursue leads, and conduct public‑records requests.
• Take photos and video to enhance reporting and share content on social platforms.
• Collaborate with editors and fellow reporters, sharing research and sources.
• Maintain a strong digital presence, amplifying stories on Instagram, TikTok and other channels.

Required profile

• At least two years of news reporting or editing experience (student journalism counts).
• Strong news judgment, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Flexibility to manage multiple short‑term projects.
• Bilingual candidates, especially Spanish speakers, are encouraged to apply.

Required skills

• Proficiency in photography and video capture for news stories.
• Experience creating and curating content for vertical‑video social media platforms.
