Remote Tax Preparer (US)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Tax Preparer to join our fully remote team serving clients across the United States. The role involves preparing and reviewing complex individual, business, and international tax returns while providing high‑quality client service.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review individual (1040) and business (1120, 1120‑S, 1065) tax returns, including related schedules.
• Review returns prepared by junior team members for accuracy, compliance, and completeness.
• File sales tax returns in multiple states and resolve IRS or state notices on behalf of clients.
• Identify tax planning opportunities and communicate findings clearly to clients.
• Assist clients with bookkeeping reviews, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and payroll tax compliance.
• Advise on chart of accounts, expense categorization, and overall accounting accuracy.
• Support business entity formation (LLC, S‑Corp, C‑Corp), EIN registration, and initial compliance requirements.
• Serve as primary point of contact for assigned clients, responding promptly to inquiries and managing expectations.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of tax preparation and review experience in a professional firm.
• Active PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number).
• Strong knowledge of federal and state individual and business tax law.
• Fluency in English and French (written and spoken).
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment with minimal supervision.
• Reliable high‑speed internet connection and a distraction‑free workspace within the United States.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Drake, ProSeries, UltraTax or equivalent professional tax software.
