Rehabilitation Engineer

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a Rehabilitation Engineer to lead engineering efforts that remove barriers for individuals with disabilities. Working under limited supervision, you will design, coordinate, and oversee modifications to homes, vehicles, and workplaces, ensuring accessibility and compliance with state standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct job‑site assessments to identify workplace barriers and recommend engineering solutions.
• Perform home assessments, collaborating with occupational therapists and rehabilitation technologists to address employment‑related access needs.
• Manage residential modification services, including vendor coordination, bid procurement, contract drafting, and final inspections.
• Oversee AgrAbility services in partnership with the Assistive Work Technology Team.
• Administer vehicle modification services, coordinating with Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialists, qualified vendors, and consumers.
• Coordinate mobility services for independent driving, handling assessments, equipment specifications, installations, and final fittings.
• Provide assessments for education and transition services, consulting with field staff, schools, and training programs.
• Design and fabricate custom tooling, equipment, and accommodations not commercially available.

Required profile

• Ability to work independently with limited supervision while overseeing engineering plans, designs, costs, and construction coordination.
• Experience conducting assessments and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (therapists, technologists, vendors).
• Strong organizational skills for managing contracts, bids, and inspection processes.
• Willingness to travel frequently throughout Eastern Georgia.
