Regulatory Counsel – AI Regulation (US)

About the role

Anthropic is looking for a Regulatory Counsel to lead its U.S. AI regulatory work and support the company’s global compliance strategy. You will act as the in‑house lawyer for AI regulation in the United States, guiding the business through emerging laws, standards, and enforcement processes.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a lead in‑house regulatory counsel for U.S. AI regulation, handling applicability analysis, readiness, day‑to‑day advice, and compliance‑program design.
• Own end‑to‑end U.S. regulatory compliance deliverables, including safety and transparency frameworks, model documentation, and incident‑reporting requirements.
• Track legislative, regulatory, and standards developments across federal and state jurisdictions, assess impact, and design proactive compliance approaches.
• Provide practical guidance to legal, compliance, safety, security, and business teams once regulations are in force.
• Support Anthropic’s engagement with U.S. AI regulators, enforcement agencies, and standards bodies, coordinating notifications, information requests, and voluntary framework processes.
• Partner with Policy and Policy Legal teams on pre‑legislative engagement, comment letters, and regulatory submissions.
• Collaborate with Litigation and Regulatory Investigations teams on enforcement matters related to AI regulation.

Required profile

• Experience as an in‑house regulatory lawyer or counsel focused on U.S. technology or AI law.
• Proven ability to lead regulatory compliance initiatives and design compliance programs.
• Strong track record of interacting with U.S. regulators, enforcement agencies, and standards bodies.
• Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical, scalable guidance for cross‑functional teams.
