Quality Control Chemist – Global Chemical Operations

About the role

Join 3M's Global Chemical Operations plant in Cordova, IL as a Quality Control Chemist. You will ensure product quality and regulatory compliance while collaborating with innovative teams worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Perform quality assurance and control activities for certifications such as ISO 9001 and GMP.
• Facilitate customer complaint investigations, analysis, and corrective actions.
• Develop and refine analytical test methods.
• Generate protocols, summary reports, and other laboratory documentation.
• Design and execute method validations and measurement system analyses.
• Provide investigative analytical chemistry solutions to support plant operations.
• Manage quality‑impacted material inventory for assigned product portfolios.
• Identify cost‑reduction opportunities related to poor quality and support improvement initiatives.
• Lead continuous‑improvement kaizens and projects to enhance process efficiency and operational excellence.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed before start).
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Experience with basic lab procedures (wet chemistry, pH, dilutions, etc.).
• Industry laboratory experience, including internships.
• Ability to work effectively individually or within cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of HPLC, IC, GC, UV‑Vis, Karl Fischer, ICP, NIR, LCMS.
• Analytical method development and validation.
• Statistical techniques and data analysis.
• Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Minitab.
