Public Safety Officer (as needed)

About the role

The Public Safety Officer provides routine surveillance of Phelps Health Hospital grounds and buildings, ensuring a secure environment for staff, patients, and visitors. The role involves foot and vehicle patrols, responding to service calls, and maintaining accurate activity records.

Key responsibilities

• Perform foot and vehicle patrols of the hospital premises and respond to incidents or disturbances.
• Maintain daily shift logs, incident reports, and provide written updates to management.
• Communicate safety and security information to the Director of Public Safety and coordinate emergency responses.
• Monitor and direct parking operations in accordance with hospital policy.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED and graduation from a Law Enforcement Academy.
• Minimum 1 year of road patrol experience or 4 years of active law‑enforcement experience.
• Ability to stand for long periods, walk/run long distances, and operate patrol vehicles safely.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
• Current Missouri law‑enforcement commission or qualified retired peace officer status.
• Valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
