Armed Public Safety Officer – Full‑Time, Variable Shifts

About the role

Phelps Health Hospital is seeking an Armed Public Safety Officer to provide a secure environment for staff, patients, and visitors. The role involves foot and vehicle patrols, responding to service calls, and de‑escalating potential disturbances.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine surveillance of hospital grounds and buildings.
• Conduct foot and vehicle patrols and respond to calls for service.
• Maintain accurate shift logs, incident reports, and written documentation.
• Communicate safety and security issues to the Director of Public Safety and coordinate emergency responses.
• Assist with parking management and enforce hospital policies.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED and graduation from a Law Enforcement Academy.
• Minimum 1 year road patrol experience or 4 years active law‑enforcement experience.
• Valid motor vehicle license and ability to stand, walk, and run for long periods.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and interpret safety policies.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
• Valid law‑enforcement commission in good standing with the Missouri POST Commission, or recent commission, or qualified retired peace officer status.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and confidentiality of patient information.
