Public Information Communications Intern

About the role

This unpaid internship with the Guided Tours Unit of the Visitors Services Section offers hands‑on experience in public engagement and communications at the United Nations Headquarters. The role is based in New York and can be full‑time (35 hours/week) or part‑time, depending on the candidate’s availability and unit needs.

Key responsibilities

• Support planning and execution of outreach, visitor‑engagement, and special‑event projects, including research, coordination, material preparation, and follow‑up.
• Assist in developing thematic tours and educational activities to enhance visitor experiences.
• Gain exposure to guided‑tour operations, learning how guides convey complex UN issues to diverse audiences.
• Conduct research and contribute to communications and promotional content such as articles, social‑media posts, photos, videos, and visual materials.
• Support innovative visitor‑engagement initiatives using emerging technologies like VR/AR and AI.

Required profile

• Interest in public information, communications, and international affairs.
• Ability to work onsite in New York and adapt to full‑time or part‑time schedules.
• Strong research, writing, and organizational skills.
