Public Health Informatics Internship (OPHI)

About the role

This unpaid internship with the Office of Public Health Informatics (OPHI) offers students the chance to apply academic knowledge to real‑world public health challenges within the Georgia Department of Public Health. Interns will gain hands‑on experience in data analysis, research, and informatics while supporting state‑wide health initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide project support and conduct research related to public health informatics.
• Assist with documentation, data preparation, and creation of reports or dashboards.
• Participate in meetings, contribute to assessments, and present findings to OPHI or agency leadership as appropriate.
• Support project coordination and, for graduate or doctoral interns, perform independent analysis and develop recommendations.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral program in a relevant field (e.g., public health, informatics, data science).
• Ability to work under supervision for undergraduate level and independently for advanced academic levels.
• Strong analytical mindset and interest in applying academic knowledge to a government setting.
