Job description
About the role
Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) is looking for an experienced Propulsion Design Engineer to provide inline design, development and test support for propulsion systems used in NASA's Human Launch Systems. You will help establish flight rationale for America's new human-rated vehicles through detailed design work and system-level integration insight, joining a multi-discipline team that develops propulsion components and mechanisms that integrate with the broader vehicle systems.
Key responsibilities
- Take part in multi-disciplinary engineering teams to develop new designs (CAD models, documents, drawings) focused on propulsion devices and supporting hardware.
- Apply system-level thinking so designs integrate cleanly with structures, mechanisms, avionics, fluid systems and mission operations constraints.
- Use CREO parametric modeling software, including piping and additive manufacturing modules, to build robust, manufacturable designs.
- Collaborate with MSFC, other NASA centers and partners to ensure design maturity, manufacturing readiness and alignment with system requirements.
- Support development of integrated propulsion flight hardware and ground test equipment, identifying interface risks early.
- Communicate clearly across teams to share design intent and ensure smooth integration.
Required profile
- US citizen with a STAR ID; proof of citizenship required.
- Typically a Master's degree with 8+ years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience; ABET-accredited degree preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, communicate clearly and work at a computer for long periods, with occasional domestic travel (5%) and normal weekday hours 7:30-4:30.
Required skills
- CREO, NX CAD or SolidWorks; familiarity with ASME Y14.5 / ISO 1101 and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Windchill or similar PLM software for configuration management.
- Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- Python and AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or Keras are desired.
What we offer
- Health, dental and vision insurance, paid time off and holidays, retirement benefits including 401(k) matching.
- Educational reimbursement, parental leave, employee stock purchase plan and tax-saving options.
- Wellness programs, employee perks and company-sponsored networking events.
