Project Manager – Environmental Engineering

About the role

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the Environmental Engineering practice across its Kansas City, Omaha, and Oklahoma City offices. The role combines business development, client management, and technical leadership on a variety of civil and environmental projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and submit proposals, define scopes of work, and set fee structures.
• Lead project teams through planning, design‑bid‑build, and design‑build delivery models.
• Provide technical guidance, QA/QC oversight, and review deliverables from junior staff.
• Negotiate with regulatory agencies (EPA, state agencies) and manage permitting processes.
• Oversee subcontractor performance, contracts, schedules, and budgets to ensure profitability.
• Maintain client relationships, identify new business opportunities, and support marketing efforts.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field from an accredited program.
• Minimum 7 years (preferably 10) of professional experience in civil/environmental engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent credential.
• Proven experience in business development, proposal development, and client maintenance.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
