Project Engineer – Transportation

About the role

Wood Rodgers is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join its Transportation Division. You will work on a variety of transportation infrastructure projects, helping to shape the way communities move and grow across California.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and analysis of roads, highways, and multimodal facilities, including feasibility studies and cost estimates.
• Assist the Project Manager throughout project lifecycles, from proposal preparation to client coordination and delivery.
• Ensure compliance with current transportation codes, regulations, and standards, and obtain necessary permits.
• Prepare clear technical reports and memoranda for clients and agency staff.
• Mentor and oversee junior staff, delegating tasks and reviewing their technical work.
• Maintain project budgets, schedules, and day‑to‑day task tracking.
• Support business development by helping define scope, schedule, and budget for new pursuits.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in transportation design and analysis.
• Colorado Professional Engineer (PE) license; additional certifications are a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation.
• Experience developing Plans, Specifications, and Estimate (PS&E) packages for roadway projects.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office for reporting and documentation.
