Project Controls Manager – Lead Closure Portfolio

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a Project Controls Manager to lead the delivery of project controls for its Closure Legacy portfolio across the Americas. This permanent, full‑time position will be based in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, or Montreal, Canada, and will work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure accurate cost, schedule, and performance reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Lead monthly consolidation of budget tracking, forecasting, accruals, progress reporting, and schedule performance for the AMR closure portfolio.
• Manage and coach a team of project controllers and schedulers, ensuring high‑quality outputs aligned with global standards.
• Analyse cost, schedule, and performance trends to support strategic decision‑making.
• Partner with district managers, site managers, contractors, and functional teams to verify cost and schedule performance.
• Oversee SAP project creation, budget uploads, WBS structure, service entry sheets, purchase requisitions, purchase order tracking, vendor management, and invoicing verification.
• Promote compliance with standardized project controls processes, tools, and systems.

Required profile

• Commitment to safety of self and team.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, finance, business or a related discipline (preferred).
• Significant experience in project controls within complex, multi‑site projects.
• Proven leadership and team‑management capabilities.
