About the role

Radiant Industries is seeking a Principal Power Systems Engineer to lead the design, modeling, and validation of electrical power systems for its portable nuclear microreactor platform. The role will define how power is generated, conditioned, controlled, and delivered across grid‑connected, islanded, and rapid‑deployment scenarios, supporting the commercialization of mass‑produced microreactors.

Key responsibilities

  • Own architectural design of microreactor‑based power generation systems for both grid‑connected and islanded modes.
  • Create single‑line diagrams for single‑ or multi‑reactor configurations.
  • Develop Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEAs) to identify system behavior during component failures and define redundancy paths.
  • Evaluate system response to disturbances such as load steps, faults, breaker operations, and loss‑of‑generation events.
  • Size energy‑storage systems for reactor cold‑start and variable load demands.
  • Synchronize multiple reactors within a microgrid and with the external grid.
  • Collaborate with power conversion, electrical design, controls, turbomachinery, nuclear, thermal, and software teams.
  • Participate in software‑in‑the‑loop (SIL), hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL), and system‑level testing to verify performance.
  • Support system checkout, commissioning, and testing of all power requirements.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance of power systems, including power‑quality verification methods.

Required profile

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on power systems or control systems.
  • 5+ years of experience designing power systems for complex, safety‑critical applications.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage end‑to‑end system development.
