Principal Civil Engineer - Transportation Infrastructure

About the role

Our Irvine, California office is hiring a Principal Civil Engineer to lead transportation infrastructure projects, primarily supporting Caltrans and regional transportation agencies. You will oversee road and highway design, mentor staff, and ensure successful project delivery across Southern California.

Key responsibilities

• Perform roadway engineering and design assignments, applying engineering techniques and design criteria for projects of varying size and complexity.
• Develop horizontal and vertical geometry, analyze cross sections, and calculate super‑elevations for highway and road projects.
• Prepare design calculations, technical reports, and engineering plans; conduct senior reviews of documents prepared by others.
• Lead technical proposal writing, graphics development, and material quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
• Supervise and mentor engineers on transportation projects, fostering team development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience on road and highway projects, with substantial Caltrans horizontal/vertical geometrics work.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
• Experience managing staff and performing quality reviews.

Required skills

• High proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D.
• Experience using MicroStation and/or InRoads.
