Principal AI Software Engineer (TS/SCI w/Poly)

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Principal AI Software Engineer to support its Corporate Directory Services mission. The engineer works closely with mission stakeholders to lead the development of AI and machine learning solutions, intelligence mission workflows and emerging analytic capabilities. The role covers designing, developing, prototyping and deploying AI-enabled applications that automate complex intelligence processes, from proof-of-concept through operational deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with customers to drive the rapid development, evaluation and transition of AI/ML-enabled mission capabilities that improve operational analysis and intelligence workflows.
• Use emerging technologies, scalable software architectures and advanced analytics to automate discovery and accelerate insight generation, delivering production-ready solutions.
• Shape technical strategy and best practices for the deployment, sustainment and evolution of AI-enabled mission systems.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree plus 7 years of relevant experience, or Master's plus 9 years, or Bachelor's plus 11 years, or Associate's plus 13 years, or high school diploma/GED plus 15 years.
• TS/SCI poly security clearance required.
• Position is not safety-sensitive; drug-free workplace with pre-hire screening as a condition of employment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AI/ML technologies such as classification, clustering, collaborative filtering, search and retrieval, including deep neural networks, RNNs and attention-based transformers.
• Experience with large language models for representative and generative tasks.
• Object-oriented languages (Java, Python) and Jupyter Notebooks.
• Preferred: retrieval-augmented generation, model context protocol, agentic AI and agentic systems.
