Postdoctoral Research Associate – Host‑Pathogen Interactions

About the role

The Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate host‑pathogen interactions in a USDA ARS collaborative project. The research focuses on how prior exposure to moderately acidic conditions influences Salmonella invasion, survival, and replication within bovine macrophages.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute infection and time‑course experiments using bovine macrophage cultures.
• Generate dual RNA‑seq data to capture bacterial and host transcriptional responses across relevant serotypes.
• Analyze transcriptomic datasets, perform differential gene expression analysis, and integrate findings with phenotypic outcomes.
• Maintain rigorous experimental records, prepare progress reports, and contribute to scientific publications.
• Mentor undergraduate or graduate student researchers as needed.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in microbiology, immunology, veterinary science, or a related field.
• Experience with bacterial culture, mammalian cell culture, and infection assays.
• Proficiency in RNA‑seq library preparation and bioinformatic analysis of transcriptomic data.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends for time‑course experiments.
• Strong written communication skills for reporting and manuscript preparation.
