Political Affairs Intern – Peacekeeping Knowledge Management

About the role
The Political Affairs Internship supports the Knowledge Management and Guidance Team within the Policy and Best Practices Service of the Department of Peace Operations. This six‑month unpaid position can be undertaken remotely or in a hybrid arrangement at the UN premises in New York.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct research on peacekeeping issues and knowledge‑management topics.
- Develop strategic communications, multimedia presentations, visualisations and data analyses.
- Take notes and draft minutes at events, conferences and meetings.
- Prepare reports, concept papers, policy documents, talking points, articles and other team outputs.
- Support the organisation of conferences, workshops and webinars, including online events.
- Maintain information systems such as the Policy and Practice Database.
- Produce internal communications – newsletters, podcasts, videos, one‑pagers and similar materials.
- Assist with after‑action reviews and other guidance and learning products.
Required profile
- Enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme, or be in the final year of a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
- Demonstrated interest or research experience in peacekeeping, international organisations, NGOs or humanitarian settings.
- Foundational knowledge of professional communications production.
- Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French or another UN language is an advantage.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience using Power BI, SharePoint and EFM Verint.
- Familiarity with AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, generative AI applications and AI‑assisted workflows.
