About the role
As a Platform Engineer III at Availity, you will be a technical contributor for the team managing the core integration platform of U.S. healthcare systems. Availity connects millions of providers with health plans, and its API Gateway platforms deliver services end to end. The role is remote within the United States.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and evolve the API Gateway integration platforms at enterprise scale, including software upgrades, performance monitoring and collaboration with the application development team.
- Manage the tooling and support for intelligent automated integration, and guide junior engineers while mentoring them.
- Help lead platform enhancements that enable flexible and secure integration between internal and external services.
- Provide guidance on application service design, data and transaction workflows for scalability, reliability and extensibility.
- Follow infrastructure-as-code best practices (Terraform, Helm, Ansible) for repeatable deployments and environment consistency.
- Drive operational excellence through on-call rotation support, post-mortem investigations and resilient solutions.
- Perform unit testing, complex debugging and identify opportunities for automated testing.
- Analyze technical feasibility, estimate effort, plan and organize the backlog.
- Ensure upgrades, patching and platform updates are planned and executed without business disruption.
- Help set reliability targets and define operational metrics (availability, latency, error budgets) in line with SRE methodologies.
- Write detailed technical documentation, including architectural diagrams and operational procedures.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 4-6 years of relevant technical and business experience in IT systems delivery, operations and support (preferably in healthcare or high-transaction environments).
- 3+ years of experience in technical engineering efforts involving implementation and management of IT systems.
- Experience bridging infrastructure and development teams, and the ability to lead and guide technical teams.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required skills
- API Gateway management at scale, HTTP integration and API authentication frameworks.
- SSL certificates (validation, encryption, authentication, signatures).
- Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, Helm) and AWS services (VPC, IAM, EC2, EKS, Istio).
- Observability and monitoring tools, preferably Splunk and New Relic.
- Preferred: SaaS experience, API management software such as Tyk, metrics-driven reliability engineering (SLOs, SLIs, error budgets), scripting languages such as Go, JavaScript or Python.
What we offer
- Competitive salary, bonus structure, HSA company contribution, healthcare, vision and dental benefits, and a 401k match from day one.
- Unlimited PTO for salaried associates plus 9 paid holidays; hourly associates start at 19 days of PTO.
- Wellness reimbursement of up to $250 per year and education reimbursement.
- Paid parental leave for all parents, and diversity and inclusion groups.
