Planning Officer (Team Lead)

About the role

As a Planning Officer (Team Lead) within the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) you will lead a regional team in New York, overseeing budgeting, management and implementation of mine‑action programmes worldwide. Reporting to the Chief of Programme Management and Support Section, you will act as a key technical resource and liaison across UN departments and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a regional PMSS team, supporting budgeting, cost planning and deployment of mine‑action programmes.
• Coordinate programme management with DPO, OROLSI, UN agencies, donors and field staff.
• Identify resource requirements and develop cost and deployment plans in consultation with Strategic Planning and Operational Support.
• Ensure effective use of the Umoja ERP system by programme staff.
• Monitor and evaluate programme effectiveness and implement improvements.
• Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with UN entities, agencies and mine‑action stakeholders.
• Prepare periodic reports for UN organs, donor countries and senior management.
• Perform other duties as required.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of mine‑action issues, standards and related political, social and economic dimensions.
• Experience in programme management, budgeting and cost planning.
• Proven ability to build and sustain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Umoja ERP.
