About the role
The Petroleum Inspector will perform sampling and quantity surveys of shore tanks, barges, vessels, railcars and trucks at client facilities, ensuring accurate data for laboratory analysis and regulatory compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Receive orders and gather paperwork from Operations Supervisors on commodity movements.
- Ensure all sampling and measurement equipment is clean, calibrated and in good operating condition.
- Travel to refineries, terminals, tank farms, barges, vessels, railcars and trucks to collect petrochemical samples and perform quantity surveys.
- Label samples accurately, calculate quantities, complete paperwork and deliver samples to Bureau Veritas laboratories or client sites.
- Report any discrepancies or incidents promptly to the Operations Supervisor or Dispatcher.
- Maintain a 24‑hour on‑call status and attend required meetings and trainings.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED with 2–4 years of relevant experience in petroleum sampling or inspection.
- Knowledge of HS&E procedures, federal and state regulations, and safe handling of hazardous materials.
- Ability to read technical documents, write routine reports and communicate effectively with terminal and vessel personnel.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb regularly and up to 100 lb with assistance, and to work in environments with fumes, chemicals and noise.
Required skills
- IFIA/TIC certification.
- Valid Transportation Worker’s Identification Card (TWIC).
- Valid driver’s license with vehicle insurance and registration.
- Proficiency with shore tanks, trucks, rail cars, pipelines and barges for sampling and gauging.
