Permit Technician – Plano, TX

About the role

The Permit Technician provides essential administrative, clerical and secretarial support to the Permit Services team in Plano, Texas. Working under the Permit Technician Supervisor, you will manage the construction‑permit database, verify application packets and interact with city officials, contractors and the public.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and verify permit applications, ensuring all required documents, fees, and approvals are included.
• Enter and maintain permit and inspection data in the Bureau Veritas tracking system and generate status reports.
• Provide clerical support such as answering calls, drafting correspondence, and filing documents.
• Interact with city officials, contractors, and the public to answer permit‑related inquiries.
• Assist Permit Review staff and support special projects, research, and data‑analysis tasks.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; associate’s degree in business administration or related field preferred.
• Minimum two years of office, clerical, or data‑entry experience, preferably in a municipal or construction environment.
• ICC Permit Technician certification required or obtainable within the first year.
• Valid Texas driver’s license for occasional on‑site visits.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Experience using Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Photoshop.
• Familiarity with BV permit‑tracking system and other CRM tools.
• Ability to operate scanners and perform basic photo‑editing for document attachment.
