About the role
Second Front Systems is seeking a detail‑oriented, mission‑driven People Operations Specialist to manage onboarding, benefits, and HR processes for our team. The role supports a distributed workforce while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Manage onboarding, offboarding, and employment status changes with accuracy and confidentiality.
- Maintain accurate employee records in HRIS platforms (Justworks, Lattice, Ashby) and ensure compliance with employment law.
- Orchestrate benefits enrollments, terminations, open enrollment, and leave of absence tracking (FMLA, ADA, parental leave).
- Serve as primary point of contact for employee inquiries related to benefits, payroll, policies, and employment verifications.
- Partner with IT and Security teams to coordinate access provisioning and deprovisioning, ensuring compliance alignment.
- Contribute to HR process documentation, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required profile
- 3–5 years of experience in People Operations, HR Specialist, or a similar HR support role.
- Demonstrated proficiency with HRIS or PEO platforms (Justworks, Lattice, Ashby, Rippling) and comfort working with data.
- Hands‑on experience managing onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, and leave of absence workflows.
- Knowledge of employment law, multi‑state compliance, and leave administration (FMLA, ADA).
- Experience supporting a remote or hybrid workforce in a fast‑paced, distributed environment.
- U.S. citizenship and residency in an approved hiring hub (DC/MD/VA, Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill NC, Denver/Colorado Springs CO, or Dallas/Fort Worth TX).
