Payroll Specialist 3 – State Government Role

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a Payroll Specialist 3 to lead and supervise payroll operations within the Judicial Council/Administrative Office of the Courts. Working under the Accounting Manager, you will ensure accurate payroll processing, compliance with regulations, and effective support for employees and third‑party providers.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the payroll function and related programs, acting as the primary liaison with government entities and third‑party payroll companies.
• Interpret organizational policies and government regulations, providing technical and customer support.
• Analyze and audit payroll records, prepare detailed reports, and develop or revise payroll policies.
• Process complex transactions, including voids, on‑demand adjustments, garnishments, levies, bankruptcies, and child‑support wage assignments.
• Post and update personnel and payroll transactions in the GA@Work system, reconciling activities and ensuring data accuracy.
• Prepare monthly retirement and health‑insurance reconciliations and manage year‑end W‑2 processing.
• Assist with new‑hire onboarding in GA@Work, maintain payroll records, and handle special projects as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Accounting, Finance, Business).
• Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and serve as a subject‑matter expert.
• Strong analytical skills with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with employees, agencies, and external partners.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the GA@Work payroll system.
