Part‑Time Math Tutor – Educational Aide

About the role

This part‑time, non‑benefited, FLSA non‑exempt position in the Developmental Studies Department reports to the Coordinator of Academic Support Labs and works primarily at the Lawrenceville Campus of Gwinnett Technical College.

Key responsibilities

• Aid students in understanding math concepts introduced in college courses.
• Provide oral and written reports as required.
• Perform basic administrative and clerical tasks to support daily computer‑lab operations.
• Operate computers, copiers, and other office equipment and conduct routine preventive maintenance.
• Compose and type correspondence and administrative documents according to guidelines.
• Work scheduled hours, beginning and ending as expected, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Successful completion of at least 6 credit hours of college‑level math courses (testing for competence required).
• Ability to listen to students, focus their attention, and explain complex math concepts.
• Excellent oral communication and ability to build good working relationships with peers and diverse students.
• Capability to coach study skills and promote successful course completion.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, prior college‑level tutoring experience, and a GPA of 3.0 or higher in math coursework.
