Part‑Time Juvenile Detention Counselor (Claxton, GA)

About the role

This part‑time position (29 hours per week) supports the rehabilitation of youth in the Claxton Regional Youth Detention Center. You will deliver structured cognitive‑behavioral and life‑skills group counseling, document program activities, and assist with administrative tasks to maintain a safe environment.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate or co‑facilitate group counseling sessions and facility‑wide PBIS activities.
• Conduct daily rounds on the living unit to identify and address youth needs.
• Provide evening and weekend coverage for social, emotional, and behavioral support.
• Assist with admission, orientation, and case management of youth.
• Support program staff to ensure services align with best practices and departmental policy.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Preference for degrees in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Forensic Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related fields.
• One or more years of direct case‑management experience working with offenders is preferred.
