About the role
Pratt Institute is seeking part‑time faculty members to join the Interior Design department for the 2025‑2026 academic year, beginning in Fall 2026. The position involves teaching in both the BFA and MFA Interior Design programs, guiding students through critical inquiry of occupied space, and integrating emerging technologies, sustainable practices, and interdisciplinary collaboration into the curriculum.
Key responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate interior design courses, including studio, theory, and research components.
- Develop and update course materials that reflect current industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Mentor and advise students on academic and professional development.
- Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to foster interdisciplinary design projects.
- Incorporate sustainable design systems, construction knowledge, and material studies into coursework.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (MFA, MA, or equivalent) in Interior Design or a closely related field.
- Professional experience in interior design with a demonstrated ability to articulate future directions of the discipline.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and community engagement.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an academic environment.
Required skills
- Knowledge of emerging design technologies.
- Understanding of construction processes and built environment considerations.
- Expertise in sustainable design systems and processes.
- Proficiency with materials, color theory, and lighting design.
- Experience leading design studios (introductory, practice‑based, and theoretical).
- Ability to integrate interdisciplinary and collaborative design approaches.
- Familiarity with community engagement and social‑justice oriented projects.
- Strong background in interior design history, theory, and research.
- Competence in digital and analog 2D/3D representation techniques.
