Outreach and Education Program Officer

About the role

The Chesapeake Bay Trust is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Program Officer on the Outreach and Education Team. This full‑time position supports grant programs that advance environmental literacy across Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Key responsibilities

• Administer award programs focused on environmental education, including proposal support, review coordination, grant agreements, and award management.
• Maintain partnerships with non‑profit, state, federal and community organizations to promote grant initiatives.
• Advertise programs statewide, assist applicants in developing proposals, and provide technical assistance.
• Facilitate application analysis, prepare summary reports for review committees and the Board.
• Manage awards ranging from $2,500 to $150,000, including contracts, payments, and reporting.
• Support awardees throughout project implementation and communicate outcomes to stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience coordinating or implementing environmental education or literacy programs.
• Proven ability to build and sustain stakeholder partnerships.
• Strong organizational, strategic thinking and project‑management skills.
• Experience managing budgets, contracts and maintaining accurate records.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Experience using online grant‑management systems.
